More commonly diamonds have some color. From
pink , green, brown and even red. For the most part diamonds range from
white to shades of yellow.
To truly see the color of a diamond it is
necessary to see the diamond unmounted or loose. It is unwise to buy a
diamond of any significance in a mounting. Also, when judging a diamond for
color, it is important to see it in good natural light.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA)
categorizes color as follows:
-
D, E, F - are considered colorless and very rare
-
G, H, I, J - are near colorless
-
K, L, M - beginning in the faint yellow range
